Few months back I wrote a couple of articles about web hosting, and what you should look at when choosing your webhost. I also showed you some links with web hosting portals, and that time has come again.
I have previously linked you to web hosting rating websites, but some more details are rewuired. The most important thing in a web host is the uptime. The second most important thing is ping time (the lag time in which the server responds to your requests, should be as low as 30 miliseconds or less). The third thing, which most hosts forget all together is the support.
Most webhosts show great sales support, but once you get to their ship, they forget you somewhere down the deck, and never care about your issues. So be carefull.
A good place to start learning what you need to know to protect yourself when buying services in this industry is Web Hosting Rating. Dot Com. They have a pretty vast website with plenty information on web hosting. I decided to post an article about them because their design, and user architecture is somewhat standard-modern. Their website looks like most of the others in the same niche, but when I navigated through it I felt like the information, navigation elements are placed exactly where I needed them to be. The original part of their website is the web hosting tutorials section.
Now, did you really thought they do not have a web hosting awards section? Well, you were wrong. They do. They have the most thorough reviews I have seen before. They do not look that professional, but are very handy when it comes to you getting to know the web hosting companies, and their capabilities.
Check out the older posts, check out the web hosting forums, and you will definitely end up in the right place.
Iphone 3G prices are listed in the attached image. Please note that new clients have the option to choose 39 or 59 Euros/month subscription plans. Minutes ago I have already confirmed my pre-order and signed an e-contract with Orange.

With less than 3 days until Orange opens it shops with Iphones on the stands, I have new updates. First of all, they will really open the stores at midnight, which I think it is a first here in Romania. Secondly, don’t get excited, because a series of bad news are comming up. Fans of Iphone and alike will not be able to hold the Iphone in their hands on Thursday night. In fact, if they do not have enough documents they will not get inside the Orange Shops.
In order to get in there you need your ID (or passport), your household paperwork so that you can sign an official contract. They really want to know that the bill will not be sent God knows where. With these 2 you will be able to get inside the store, but once you get in there you will need to “show off your money”. This means that if you do not have the minimum ammount to buy the Iphone, the way out is the way you will go.
And, badly for Romanians, as I know most of my con-nationals, most of you will not buy the Iphone. Iphone will not be sold contract free. Iphone will not be sold with any of the current subcription plans ( using the extend contract for 24 months option ). Iphone will only be sold with its own subcription plans, which by all means will look like business plans, and be priced accordingly ( around 30 Euros/month minimum ).
LE (9:35 PM/21st of August): Orange has just stopped taking pre-orders on the Iphone on their official website. Also, some rumors in the press talk about 39 and 59 Euros/month subscription plans, IPhone ranging from 179 Euros to almost 500. Also, current clients may get a 12 Euros subcription fee and lower IPhone prices.
It looks after all that we won’t be seeing the Iphone in everyone’s hands.
Cheers!
The day when the phone that beats the Iphone is here. On 22nd of August Orange Romania will be releasing the Iphone 3G to the Romanian market.
LE: I just came back from Orange Shop. It turns out that on 22nd of August, midnight, the Iphone 3G will be released in 6 cities around Romania, one of which is in Cluj-Napoca (my current location).
Pricing of the Iphone, monthly fees and features with the Iphone 3G subcription have not been announced yet, but Orange plans to launch new subcription plans especially designed for the Iphone 3G.
LEE: Oky doky. I just preordered two of the 16 GB white model. In the preorder Orange said that they will announce me prior to official launch regarding Iphone pricing and monthly subcription fees. Stay tooned for updates.
Yesterday, Apple and it’s European parteners have released the Iphone 3G in some countries. UK’s O2 has the best pricing I could find. For 30 punds per month, you get the Iphone with at most 160 pounds (the 16 Gb version). For a 75 pounds/month contract you get either version, for free. This actually made me thinking about moving to UK (kidding).
In Italy, Vodafone released the Iphone for as low as 50 Euros for a 100 Euros subscription per month, or for as “low” as 569 Euros with no subcription plans. I think Italians aren’t that happy about this.
In spain, Movistar dedicated a cool page for the Iphone (http://www.iphone.movistar.es/). This page blends perfectly with what the Iphone is, what it offers, and I think that the Iphone brand should be presented on the web only like Movistar did it.
They released the 16 Gb model for 500 Euros for a 15 Euros monthly subscription. In my oppinion, a good price for such a small subcription. However, for 25 per month, you can get the 16 Gb model for only 350 Euros.
Hopefully, when it will be released in Romania, it will have some similar pricing.
Japanese should be very happy. They get the 16 Gb model for only $ 320, with a2 year contract. The cherry here is that the price will be paid during those 24 months. You cannot get it cheaper than that.
Next step? All these resellers should launch some decent data subcriptions with good internet speeds and no traffic limitations. Then, everyone will be able to use the Iphone to its full potential.
Well, not 100%, but at least Google’s bot and Yahoo’s slurp can index and read flash content (text). This was possible due to a close partnership between Google, Yahoo, and Adobe, who have worked together for some time to achieve this.
However, as Google states it on their blog, if you place images, animations etc in your flash files, it will not get indexed. Also, for flash buttons that target URLs the bots will not generate any anchor texts if the buttons themselves do not contain any text. Video files, like FLV will not be indexed.
This is a great step ahead, and hopefully we will not see any time soon spam bots that can do their usual with flash applications as well.
What a nice ad Apple came up with to launch the new Iphone version. The Iphone 2.0, or the Iphone 3G is everything most of business people have expected.
It surf the web and downloads data twice as fast, for half the price. Moreover, the new Iphone comes in white casing too, which I like more than black. Then, it has 3G as its name sais it, and the cherry on top is that it has GPS incorporated. To bad maps in Romanian are a bit undeveloped. By a bit I mean only european roads show up!
The BIG thing about this new apple is that starting july 11th you can aquire it from Apple stores too, not only AT&T. The next BIG thing is that starting september it will be available across entire America (North continent and South as well), and Europe too. Partly Africa, Asia and Australia.
I can’t wait to get my own, push contacts back and forth, calendar information, do email as I should do on a phone and so on.
Cheers!
Well, it had to happen sooner or later. Apple still doesn’t have their own stores and geniuses in Romania, but the competition between Istyle and I.R.I.S., the 2 Apple resellers in Romania, has made the price go down. Orange, which has recently announced they will offer Iphones in Romania, has already started selling MBAs for business clients. Orange is offering them at a price equivalent to the EU standard price plus an additional 50 Euros, which is great.
On the other hand, the 2 resellers mentioned above now have promotional offers for macbooks and alike, with prices approximately 10% bigger than EU standard price, compared to 25 to 30% bigger as they were 6 months ago.
NOW: The client just called to inform that someone has contacted them via the website created for them, and that they are delighted and pleased they signed the contract with us.
11 minutes ago: The client called to inform that he has received a first order, 7000 euros plus.
1 hour, 8 minutes ago: Client’s website was officially launched.
Apparently, everything I launch lately turns into little gold mines. Cool.
Most desktop applications have this feature. But what about web applications or websites? Wordpress has this feature? Do other have it? Do your web applications have it?
How many of you are guilty? My guess is that most of you have never though of this, because you have never encountered this issue. I always wanted to implement this into the web apps I build, but I said I got used in the past to CTRL + A, CTRL + C from time to time, in case of something happens.
Something did happen to me a few minutes back, when I accidentally pressed the backspace key, which automatically sent me to the last previous page. This happened after I wrote about 200 words in an article which I was almost about to finish and publish it. Unfortunately, it is lost as I did not do the usual CTRL + A/C thing.
What hurts the most is that I could have easily implemented autosave into the application I was using, but I got to lazy. Now, I have to start all over again, and I know for certain that the article will never be the same. Moreover, if you or your clients using PCs with Windows, you may get a crash, instead of a backspace. This means that the CTRL + A/C trick will not work.
Therefore, always implement in your web applications autosave when editing text! When the inevitable happens and clients won’t lose their work, they will call and say “We love you”.
Cheers!
